Becoming a caregiver with Oranga Tamariki means providing a safe home for a child or young person in care in New Zealand. Caregivers are assessed and approved under the National Care Standards, complete induction training, and are supported to hold current first-aid skills to help keep tamariki safe.

急救要求

Caregiver approval in New Zealand is governed by the Oranga Tamariki (National Care Standards and Related Matters) Regulations 2018. Prospective caregivers complete an assessment — including police, medical and home-safety checks — and induction training covering child development, safe caring practices and responding to risk. Holding a current first-aid and CPR certificate is part of being equipped to respond to everyday emergencies such as choking, injuries and cardiac events for children and infants.

First-aid training is recognised and often arranged or funded through Oranga Tamariki and approved caregiving agencies, and should be kept current. It is one element of caregiver preparation and ongoing support, in addition to the suitability assessment, rather than a qualification that on its own approves a person to care.
